Workshop on the Languages of Melanesia, 21-23 June 2015

Australian National University, Shape

Date: 21 June 2015

The Workshop on the Languages of Melanesia was hosted by the ANU at the coastal campus at Kioloa (NSW coast) on the 21st to 23rd of June.

Attended by 21 scholars, the workshop provided an opportunity to present exploratory work rather than published outcomes all within an environment of lively discussion and a stunning natural setting. A Melanesian spirit infused the occasion. Evenings witnessed enthusiastic singing around the fireside accompanied by a guitar (Alan Rumsey) and banjo (Matt Carroll).

Eri Kashima was impressed by how wide-ranging the presentations were, a reflection of the breadth and complexity of Melanesia. For Matt Carroll, the high quality of the papers inspired him to really get stuck into his thesis.
