Hands-on FLEx workshop, 10th March

Archiving, Australian National University

Date: 7 March 2017

Training: Hands-on FLEx workshop

Date: 10 March 2017, 9am-1pm

Location: Engma Room (5019), HC Coombs Building, ANU

In the first segment of the workshop you will work with a mock database I (Don Daniels) have created and learn how to do many wonderful things, such as:

  • Create detailed lexical entries
  • Structure your lexicon by tagging relationships between lexemes
  • Sort and display your lexicon any way you want
  • Parse elicited material and texts
  • Change morphological analyses throughout your corpus on the fly, as your understanding of the language evolves
  • Conduct complex searches throughout your corpus
  • Copy example sentences into papers and presentations

During the second segment you will learn how FLEx interacts with other programs. You’ll learn to:

  • Import lexical data from Toolbox (even if it’s messy!)
  • Import text transcriptions from Toolbox, ELAN, and SayMore
  • Export time-aligned transcriptions to ELAN

If you’re coming, please have FLEx, SayMore, and ELAN installed on your computer before we start. They’re all free.

Come along! You don't need to RSVP to come, but it would be helpful if interested people let Don know ( so he can book a bigger room if needed.
