Abstract:

Emily Shen (Linguist at Appen and recent UNSW graduate) will speak about what it's like working in language technology, and how she got into the field. Hear her story, tips, and advice, and join the open Q&A.

About the speaker:

Emily is a linguist at Appen, a tech company specialising in training data for machine learning and artificial intelligence products. Since her start with Appen, she has worked with over 100 languages and dialects as part of a major transcription program, with more on the way. When not at the mercy of her main client, she is often seen planning social events and charity initiatives with colleagues across the company (with adjustments for COVID times), or playing video games over coffee break.
