Our Language Matters - Gurindji
Feeling unwell? Get yourself some bush medicine from the CLC Murnkurrumurnkurru ranger group!
Thanks to the rangers and photographer Penny Smith for this terrific photo to celebrate NAIDOC week and the Indigenous language Gurindji. Pictured left to right are: Cassandra Algy Nimarra, Felicity Meakins, Ursula Chubb Nangala, Sarah Oscar Nanaku, Wilemina Frith Nangari, Helma Sambo Nalyirri and Philip Jimmy Japalyi.
This week CoEDL CI Felicity Meakins (second from left) is facilitating a workshop in Kalkaringi (Northern Territory) with the rangers and Karungkarni Arts to make a bilingual poster of traditional Gurindji medicines and their uses.
The theme for NAIDOC week this year is 'Our Languages Matter' and all week our centre, the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language (CoEDL), is celebrating by showing language being worked on and documented by centre researchers.
Here are some links to beautiful Gurindji posters already made:
