CoEDL successes in latest ARC funding round
Congratulations to Evan Kidd, Jenny Green, Maïa Ponsonnet, Claire Bowern and Russell Gray who have all been successful in the latest ARC funding round.
Evan is to be the lead CI on a Discovery Project with Joanne Arcuili (USyd) and Michael Smithson (ANU) investigating the processes of language acquisition to support the development of evidence-based strategies for improving children’s early language.
Newly arrived postdoctoral fellow Jenny Green has been awarded a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) to investigate how traditional sign languages are used in Indigenous communities.
CoEDL affiliates have also done well. Maïa Ponsonnet has been awarded a DECRA at the University of Sydney for a project that aims to increase our understanding of emotional language and cultural practices about emotions among Indigenous Australian groups. Maïa will be relocating from Lyon to Sydney in 2016.
And Claire Bowern is a Principal Investigator—with Russell Gray—on a Discovery Project to understand the development and spread of technological systems in pre-contact Aboriginal Australia and the connection between that diffusion process and the major expansion of Pama-Nyungan languages.
