Language across time
In this special event, four linguists guided students through some of the ways in which historical linguistics can be a window onto the human past – both recent and remote – and respond to students’ questions. It was hosted by Daniel Midgley from the Talk the Talk radio show and podcast series about the science of language.
The event is followed by afternoon tea, where local students are welcome to continue talking with linguists from the panel and others from the 24th International Conference of Historical Linguistics. It was organised by Bethwyn Evans (ANU) and Luisa Miceli (UWA) and featured:
- Nick Evans, Director, Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language
- Celeste Rodriguez Louro, Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at The University of Western Australia
- Mary Walworth, Senior Linguist at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany.
- Henry Wu, PhB (Honours) student, The Australian National University
