Short film and Q&A session with Mudburra father and daughter duo - RAYELLA

University of Queensland

Date: 28 February 2017

The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language is delighted to invite you to a short film and Q&A session with Rayella, Indigenous father and daughter music duo Raymond and Eleanor Dixon. The duo are from Marlinja Community in the Northern Territory and write songs that deliver a journey into the heartbeat of Australia's centre through lyrics that are filled with tales of life and history from the Mudburra people's homeland.

In the midst of a national tour supporting the Violent Femmes, Rayella will hold this special session to provide insight into how they use their contemporary music to maintain the Mudburra language.

In the film you will listen to Ray and Eleanor discuss their approaches to language revitalization and music writing and watch them teaching the local children their song Warlungka, which is a meta-lesson on Aboriginal learning styles.

This session is free but we ask that you register through Eventbrite by following this link.
