The large majority of Australians today are monolingual speakers of English. However, Australia has a very rich Indigenous language heritage, which often gets overlooked in the broader community. In this lecture I will provide an overview to the Indigenous languages of Australia, touching on issues such as how many different languages there are, where are they spoken, how many of them are still being learned by children, and how similar or different they are to each other and to other languages of the world.
