Interview with Associate Professor Paola Escudero, University of Western Sydney, and Dr Karen Mulak, MARCS Baby Lab about the Australian accent and babies understanding of it. Giakoumelos says that research suggests that Australian babies are struggling to pick up some vowel sounds and are more likely to understand Canadians. Mulak explains how they tested the ability of young children to differentiate between words by using a made up word. Escudero says that children will learn the language in the long run but the study wants to identify areas that children might be delayed in.
