The Ngumpin-Yapa Workshop brings together linguists involved with research on languages of the Ngumpin-Yapa subgroup of the Pama-Nyungan language family. Sessions will cover a broad range of topics including phonology, morphology, syntax, language contact, language change and historical reconstruction within this subgroup. Linguists will present work-in-progress and informal papers for discussion during the workshop. Papers will be 45 minutes, and presenters are welcome to divide time between presentation and discussion as they wish (e.g. 20min:25min, 30min:15min).
Also, join us for guided walk-throughs of upcoming exhibitions at the UQ Art Museum and the UQ Anthropology museum, after the close of the workshop on Friday.
- Walk-through of the exhibition ‘Still in my mind: Gurindji experience, location and visuality’ at 2.00pm at the UQ Art Museum with curator Brenda L Croft.
- Walk-through of the exhibition 'From Relics to Rights: Aboriginal People and Anthropology at the University of Queensland’ at 3.30pm at the UQ Anthropology Museum with curator Michael Aird.
- Opening of exhibitions and talks with Gurindji artists and exhibition curators will be held on Saturday from 2.00pm. Please RSVP.
